UPDATE - TUESDAY THE 16TH MARCH
PETER GRAVES STAR OF MISSION IMPOSSIBLE DIES AT THE AGE OF 83
Veteran actor Peter Graves has died at the age of 83. The actor had a suspected heart attack outside his home on Sunday after a meal with his family about a week before his 84th birthday.
Graves was best known for his role as special agent Jim Phelps in the popular TV series Mission Impossible. However, he also starred in much earlier TV series like Fury (1955-1960) and Whiplash (1960). He also had film roles and starred in the air disaster spoof film Airplane (1980) and the memorable war time prisoner of war drama Stalag 17.
His older brother is another veteran TV actor James Arness, who is now 86 years old. Arness was, of course, the star of the long running western, Gunsmoke (which I reviewed once in the TV Flashback part of Radio Review) in which he played Marshall Matt Dillon.
Arness has his own website devoted to GUNSMOKE. Go to www.jamesarness.com
Below is a TV news item about Peter's death and a montage of openings from the third series of Mission Impossible.
